Tips to Survive the X-Mas and New Years Holiday
by Damien Orozco
(continued from homepage)
Tip #1: Only days away from X-mas family gatherings which means eating far more than you're used to and maybe even having a few more drinks than usual. This means you have only a few days to cut back on what you are eating as of today. Eat everything you can possibly eat fresh out the meat, fruits and veggies section of the grocery store.
Tip#2: Avoid eating any unhealthy snacks like soda, candy bars, and chips because you will have plenty of that on the table X-mas Day.
Tip#3: If it is packaged in a box, plastic or especially an alunimum can don't put it in your mouth. Bottom line avoid eating pre-wrapped or packaged goods.
Tip#4: Get to the gym once in the morning and once in the evening at least 3 times per week. Stay in the gym for an hour once during the day and a half hour the first or second time you get into the gym.
Tip#5: Go for a fullbody type workout and avoid isolation exercises because any compound movement means more calories burned.

Tip#6: Make water your only source of fluid.
Tip#7: Have Almond Milk rather than cow or soy milk because it provides all the neccessary nutrients regular milk provides but far less fat and only 60 calories
Tip#8: Avoid elevators and escalators when shopping. Take the stairs no matter what.
Tip#9: When going out park your car as far away from the shopping or dining area to make sure you burn some extra calories.

Avoiding Weight-gain this X-mas Holiday by Damien (a.k.a. Adrian Orozco )
Did you survive the Thanksgiving dinner food feast? Many people gained 2 - 7 pounds over this holiday weekend and the indulgence of this kind is not over as X-mas dinner is just around the corner. Are you ready?
I myself gained about 3 pounds but I was fortunate to burn it off in a matter of
2 days. I was wise to get myself into the gym to get a good workout the day before. I was also smart enough to get myself into the gym on Thanksgiving to make sure I minimized the damage. Even the day after I got up first thing in the morning and got a real good leg workout with some cardio. Sunday morning I was almost back to my normal weight and glad I didn't let my belly get the best of me.
So what do you do to prevent yourself from gaining more weight over this December holiday? The answer is easy and I will give you some hints:
Hint #1 Make sure you don't miss a workout this month. You need to get rid of as much unwanted weight as possible in order to allow room for some guilt free eating.
As I mentioned before. I made sure I got my workout the day before, the day of the holiday and the day after. That was my insurance policy that the few pounds I gained were burned off.
Hint #2 Eat clean and healthy from now till X-mas Eve Dinner!
What if you could eat all you wanted on X-mas Eve and you didn't have to worry about how much you ate? This is one great way to make sure you eat guilt free this holiday. You eat lean meats, fish and chicken for the next 23 - 24 days depending on when you will have dinner. You also avoid all junk food, stay away from fast food and all forms of processed foods. Considering that you are now working out 6 days a week with at least 2 - 3 days of strength training included will insure that you lose about 4 - 10lbs by family dinner night. This means you will burn off more pounds than you will be able to put on. This is a form of self-rewarding. You eat right and workout consistently and at the end of these 23 -24 days you can enjoy all the food you want.
Hint #3 If you didn't eat clean the entire month before X-mas Eve avoid over-eating!

If you had to wait to take advantage of this hint then, at this point you know you might be introuble calorie-wise. So what's next? Be cautious of over-eating. If you have pie, have pumpkin pie instead of the other choices. You will reduce calories this way. Skip seconds and avoid stuffings.
If you have many options of vegetables and fruits go for the ones that look fresh like corn and potatoes without butter. If fruit is available avoid the fruit salad with all the dressing or simply reduce what you would normally eat by half.
If your having turkey again than go for the breast. The breast will reduce the amount of fat you consume and make sure you don't add gravy anywhere on your plate. The more you eat the more calories you will have to burn off.
If you had enough self-control to take advantage of Hint's 2 and 3 you can rest assure that you will look so much better by the time the New Year's arrives. Another holiday which usually means excess calories and more likely than not those that come from alcohol. Now if you had taken advantage of the Thanksgiving tips on avoiding weight gain than you can be certain that you would have lost somewhere between 8 - 10 lbs by New Year's Day and are entering 2010 in much better shape and in better health.
Happy Holidays!
